November 9, 2009 Afternoon Forecast

A good Monday to you! Our weather has been very nice over the weekend but big changes are on the way. Hurricane Ida has been causing a lot of fuss over the past few days, with a track that brings it close to the Mississippi gulf coast. Ida was downgraded into a tropical storm this morning, which is great news for the coastal communities. Our main concern in east Mississippi will be periods of heavy rain tonight and tomorrow morning. The heavier rain will fall to our southeast, but we could pick up an inch of rain before the system moves out tomorrow afternoon. We can also expect some breezy conditions later this evening and tonight, with winds gusting to 25 MPH.

A cold front will move in late in the day on Tuesday, which will push Ida to the east. This will allow for dry weather to move into the forecast area Tuesday night and Wednesday. Temperatures will be a bit cooler, as highs approach the upper 60s on Veterans Day. Wednesday and Thursday night will feature our coldest temperatures, with overnight lows in the upper 30s. We quickly warm up into the lower 70s on Thursday and Friday; sunny skies are expected.

Alabama plays Mississippi State in Starkville on Saturday, so we will be closely watching an approaching cold front. Moisture levels look rather low, so we aren’t expecting more than a stray shower. Highs will remain in the 70s through the weekend. Have a great Monday!
